The massive, two-day search for a missing Brooklyn boy is over, after investigators found what they believe to be his dismembered body in a man’s refrigerator and an outside dumpster.
New York’s WCBS has more.

“This dumpster in Sunset Park, where once again half of this child’s body has been found in this dumpster. Leiby Kletzky went missing Monday evening. He was supposed to meet his mother 15 minutes after day camp on a street corner, but he never showed up.”

Police have arrested Levi Aron, who authorities say admitted to killing and dismembering the 8-year-old boy in his apartment.

“When police asked Aron where the boy was, [Police Commissioner Ray] Kelly said Aron pointed to his kitchen, where investigators found a refrigerator with a bloodied handle containing a bloody cutting board, three bloody knives and some human remains.” (New York 1)

Kletzky had reportedly begged his parents to let him walk home from camp, and was last seen in the Borough Park area of Brooklyn just before 5 p.m on Monday.

In this surveillance video, Kletzky is seen wearing a backpack. Kletzky then stops to ask Aron directions and follows him. Investigators identified Aron after they noticed him going into a nearby dentist’s office. The dentist said the man wasn’t a patient, but came in to pay a bill. Police used those records to track him down.

In a press conference Wednesday morning, police said they don’t believe Aron and the boy knew each other.

“This apparently was just a random meeting Monday afternoon. The boy leaving his day camp, encountering Aron, Aron apparently admitting to taking him back to his home and killing him there. The Police Commissioner saying no reason that could be given, saying it is extraordinarily rare that cases end this tragically, that there’s no easy answers.” (WNBC)

Kletzky was Hasidic-- a member of the tight-knit, ultra-orthodox Jewish community. The group has been left shocked, a New York Times blogger reports.

“Two days ago, thousands had crowded the corner to volunteer their time, food and concern, all to find Leibby. Now there were water bottles littered on the street and a devastated community.”

Aron is awaiting formal charges.
