He said he wasn’t coming back.

No way.

No chance.

But this week, 39-year-old quarterback Brett Favre took a pass on retirement to sign with the Minnesota Vikings.

What are people saying about the ‘return of Brett Favre’…again?

We’re taking a look at different perspectives on the third act of this three-time NFL MVP.

In Favre’s new hometown of Minneapolis, WCCO sports reporter Mark Rosen points out that the newest Viking used to lead their archenemy -- the Green Bay Packers.

And, while the Vikings have signed a big player before, Rosen says:

“…he wasn’t a Packer, he wasn’t a guy that Vikings fans loved to hate for decades. It wasn’t in family discussions over Thanksgiving and Christmas who was going to have bragging rights for the next year based on how Brett Favre played against the Vikings. Now, all of a sudden he’s here.”

CNBC reporter Darren Rovell asks, so just how long did it take for Favre’s signing to impact the Vikings business-wise?

Before the quarterback had taken a single snap.

“The team, believe it or not, was offering half-season tickets, which is pretty much a desperate move for an NFL team. In the last 30 minutes the Vikings have since killed that plan, obviously, and are now only selling season tickets on the Web site.”

In his opinion, Favre’s return is a bad move for the Vikings – and Favre.

“Favre is a player with an abundance of selfish reasons for wanting to return, isn’t terribly motivated by winning, has declining skills and may not be the best teammate… Take all of those away and I’d be really happy to see him come back.”

In Green Bay, WBAY reporter Marcy Kobriger says Packers backers’ reactions are decidedly mixed about their hero coming back to play for their long-time rivals.

One fan’s opinion?

“He just doesn’t seem to go away. At the end of humanity, all that’s going to be left is a cockroach, air and Brett Favre coming back one more year.”
