The latest rule of Fight Club? No dissing your ex. Brad Pitt finds out the hard way after coming under fire for some touchy comments he made while promoting his latest film.

“Brad’s been on the promo circuit for his new movie, Moneyball, and for some reason, he took his interview with Parade magazine as an opportunity to slam his ex.” (CelebTV)

“Pitt discloses some rather blunt facts about his life, Pre-Angelina Jolie. Namely - that it was boring. Take that, Jennifer.” (SlashTV)

“He says he spent the 90s trying to hide out and that he was quote - trying to make the marriage into something it wasn’t. Adding salt to this wound, he then gushed about Angelina.” (Fox 411)

The comments hit the Internet Thursday when Parade published this exact quote from the actor:

“It started feeling pathetic. It became very clear to me that I was intent on trying to find a movie about an interesting life, but I wasn’t living an interesting life myself. I think that my marriage had something to do with it. Trying to pretend the marriage was something that it wasn’t."

Fans of Jennifer Aniston were not about to Just Go With It. Many took to Twitter and blogs to call Pitt "cruel," “insensitive” and “a jerk.” The Hollywood Reporter published a collection of reader comments on the situation:

“The words he rattled off about the current greatness of his life sounded like a prepared speech... Was Angelina Jolie in another room hissing into his ear piece: don't forget to say the part about my being a great mom,” wrote Danny.

Another reader published in the article, sounded off saying:

“It was RUDE to say that. Period. End of story.”

Were the comments by the Moneyball star out of left field? Entertainment Weekly doesn’t think so.

“...he expressed dissatisfaction with the relationship — far from the worst thing ever said about an ex.”

Still, Pitt attempted to remedy the situation. E! has the scoop.

“In a statement to E!, Brad explains the remarks were not an attack on his ex. Jen is an incredibly giving, loving, and hilarious woman who remains my friend. The point I was trying to make is not that Jen was dull, but that I was becoming dull to myself – and that, I am responsible for.”

No reaction yet from Aniston. The actress was spotted hitting the town with boyfriend Justin Theroux Thursday after the comments were released. Meanwhile, Pitt is continuing his promotional tour for Moneyball which opens September 23rd.
