Dominique Strauss-Kahn is off the hook. A Manhattan judge has dismissed all criminal charges against the former IMF chief. The prosecution requested the dismissal after varying testimonies from the alleged victim.
On CNBC Former Sex Crimes Prosecutor Wendy Murphy believes that, while the dismissal was ‘predictable’, the DA acted in an ‘unconscionable’ manner.
“Cy Vance should be ashamed of himself because this looks and smells like corruption.”
But legal analyst Jeanine Pirro tells CBS, the DA didn’t have much of a choice.
“Absolutely. There was no question that the Prosecutor is the person who is going to prosecute this case. And if the DA does not think there is enough credibility in this victim and that they cannot prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt, then the DA cannot be forced in any way, shape, matter or form to go forward with the case.”
Tim Minton on Buzz:60 believes that, despite forensic evidence that the two had sex, DSK would have never been convicted.
“DSK wouldn’t have been convicted even by a jury stacked by other maids and church deacons, so the DA ditched the case before trial to avoid certain loss. Now, the accuser’s attorney angrily says the maid was entitled to see the frisky Frenchman face justice. Yeah! There is no way she wanted this sordid mess anywhere near a courtroom. Which is why a lawsuit she filed will be settled for cash…”
Although he did not comment outside the courtroom, DSK did make this statement later:
“Thanks to all who stood by me...I have a few more things to do before leaving. It is the end of a terrible and unjust ordeal...I will say more upon my return in France.” (Le Monde)
