A rock star attitude might get you kicked off a flight—but how about simple rock star appearance?

For Billie Joe Armstrong, that’s all it took Thursday.

“Billie Joe Armstrong is not exactly known for being a suit and tie kind of guy. The lead singer of Green Day is more often seen wearing eye makeup and low-slung pants. And yesterday at the Oakland airport, it was his pants that got him noticed.” (KTVU)

Armstrong was boarding a flight from Oakland, California to Burbank, California, when he was asked by a flight attendant to pull his pants up.

Armstrong tweeted, “Just got kicked off a Southwest flight because my pants sagged too low! What the f***? No joke!”

Cindy Qio, a producer from San Francisco’s ABC affiliate, was on the plane during the incident.

“He said, ‘Don’t you have better things to do than worry about that?’ And then the flight attendant said again, ‘Pull your pants up or you’re coming off the plane.’” (ABC)

Immediately after Armstrong’s tweet, Southwest Airlines went into damage control.

They responded to him on Twitter saying, “Very sorry for your experience tonight, someone from our Customer Relations Team will reach out to you to get more details.”

A spokesman for the airlines also said the situation was resolved to Armstrong’s satisfaction.

But a writer for Gather says, “Considering the airlines still need to beef up security measures, perhaps they could spend less time paying attention to how low someone’s pants are and spend more time figuring out if there’s anything dangerous in them.”

And this isn’t the first time a passenger’s attire has caused problems.

“Airlines have an odd track record of refusing to let some people fly for infractions like Armstrong’s while allowing others with some curious clothing choices to remain on the plane.” (Portfolio)

For instance, Lady Gaga was able to catch a flight with no problems earlier this year wearing only this.

Armstrong was allowed on the next flight to Burbank following the incident. Saggy pants and all.
