With only three weeks left in the primary season, Democrats are wasting no time setting the tone for November.
Speaking at the Democratic National Committee Meeting, Vice President Joe Biden laid out the plans for November. And on CNN, he predicted victory.
VICE PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN: “On Nov. 3, the day after this coming election, there will be in Washington, D.C., a Democratic majority in the House and a Democratic majority in the Senate. And were it not illegal, I’d make book on it.”
On NBC's Meet the Press, Republican Mitch McConnell says, the Democrats have an uphill battle.
SEN. MITCH MCCONNELL (R-KY): “Look the problem is the spending problem. If we grind down we will begin to get a handle on this mounting debt. And if you push this economy further backward, it will be less revenue for the government, not more. Raising taxes in the middle of recession on the major job generator in America – small business - is a very, very bad idea.”
To re-gain a majority, Republicans have to pick up 10 seats in the Senate and 39 seats in the House. In The New York Times, Jeff Zeleny looks at what he considers the political hurdles ahead for Democrats.
“Democrats conceded they are not only fighting against tides of history — only twice in the last 75 years has the president’s party not lost seats in a midterm election — but a bleak economy and an unemployment rate that remains close to 10 percent. To win over voters, Democrats are searching for a balance between trumpeting their legislative achievements and reminding voters they inherited the economic problems.”
But on Fox News, two analysts say, the Democrats might better succeed by developing a familiar strategy -- “Blame Bush.”
“Do you think Bush-bashing is a wise strategy for the Democrats? Yeah, I mean its been successful up til now. Yeah but Bush was president. He was president when they went after him. No, no no no (CROSS TALK). Even after he was president it’s been a successful strategy all through now. And if you look at the number, the poll numbers that most Americans look at, most Americans blame president Bush for our financial disaster.”
