"The son of a Polish immigrant, who grew up in a Brooklyn tenement. He went to public schools, then college," an ad says.

Time readers picked Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders for Person of the Year in an online poll.

Now, that's not the same as the official Time Person of the Year, which editors will announce  Wednesday. The online poll is basically the people's choice.

Last year, for example, the readers' choice winner was Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. (Video via Office of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi)

Whereas the editors' pick ended up being "Ebola fighters."

Sanders won the 2015 readers' poll with a little more than 10 percent of the vote, topping human rights activist Malala Yousafzai, Pope Francis and President Obama.
