Live from the ice cream aisle, its Saturday night!
HODA KOTB: “Ben & Jerry’s have unveiled their SNL-Saturday Night Live-Schweddy Balls. And..anyway..how are they? Are they juicy? I can’t have ice cream so I can ask.”
KATHIE LEE: “Hmm..it has fudge covered rum balls, and malt chocolate balls, how do you think it tastes?”
Rumors about the new flavor, named after the iconic ‘90s skit featuring Pete Schweddy and his various baked goods, started swirling in June.
Ben & Jerry’s confirmed their newest flavor Wednesday, tweeting “Some people think our Schweddy Balls flavor is a fake / joke. Trust me. It's real, delicious & coming to a store near you”
The ice cream barons might think their creation is tasty--but a writer for The Stir can resist this interpretation of Schweddy Balls.
“The pop culture junkie with a sense of humor in me couldn't be more thrilled that hilarious Pete Schweddy is being commemorated by his very own ice cream flavor. But the person with taste buds in me shudders at the thought...I think it's safe to say that my mouth isn't watering just thinking about Schweddy Balls.”
But a Manolith writer says he can’t wait to stock up on Schweddy Balls.
“No word as to whether this flavor will enrage people who like their ice-cream more ‘vanilla,’ but to hell with those people. I am buying enough ice cream that if the Apocalypse happens, we can subsist on Schweddy Balls.”
And a TIME writer says Schweddy Balls might become Ben & Jerry’s most iconic flavor.
“Ben & Jerry's has released controversial ice creams, like a special edition of Chubby Hubby called Hubby Hubby, which celebrated gay marriage. Still, it seems safe to say this is—and probably will remain—their ballsiest flavor of all time.”
