A million views -- and still growing. A Texas teenager -- who died on Christmas day -- left behind a video for his parents and the world.
It has gone viral on YouTube -- and the whole world seems to want to know -- just who was Ben Breedlove?
Here’s CBS News.
“Ben shared with the world his personal struggle with a life-threatening heart condition and how that challenged him every day of his life.”
Making videos wasn’t new for Ben. He had built a following on YouTube, providing advice to teens on everything from dating to getting braces.
“Hey guys. Thanks for watching Breedlove TV and tonight, I’m going to be discussing what you should expect from this channel, and how it’s gonna work.”
But it was his final video -- without words -- that has left the greatest impact.
“Right then, I woke up and the EMS were doing CPR. I didn’t want to leave that place.”
The next day -- Ben died while playing in the back yard with his little brother.
The Austin-American Statesmen notes, his family only found out about Ben’s final video, after his death.
That’s when Ben’s story went viral...spanning the globe, picked up by the likes of MTV. Telling Ben’s story again and again.
"He says he ‘cheated death’ three times: the most recent time in early December when EMTs used shock pads on his chest after his heart stopped. He described a vision of being in a white room and being with his ‘favorite rapper, Kid Cudi’ wearing white suits and feeling ‘happy and peaceful’ and he ‘couldn't stop smiling.’”
Kid Cudi himself took to Tumblr to offer his condolences.
“I watched the video he left for the world to see, and him seeing me in detail, in his vision really warmed my heart. I broke down, Iam to tears because I hate how life is so unfair. This has really touched my heart in a way I cant describe, this is why I do what I do ...To Ben’s family, you raised a real hero, he’s definately mine.”
Austin Texas TV station KXAN talked with doctors who say, Breedlove’s positive outlook on life -- might have prolonged his life.
“And those things reverberate, not just for the individual who has the disease, but really everybody in their lives, their family members, their siblings, their friends, everybody is touched by that. So Ben carried a very important message.”
A message returned by teens who watched -- and then offered back their own stories on YouTube.
Ben Breedlove’s final note was about his close encounters with death.
“Do you believe in God or Angels? I do.”
