Crashing stolen planes and signing a deal with 20th Century Fox about his life sounds like an action-packed life. Dubbed the “barefoot bandit”, Colton Harris- Moore pleaded guilty in Washington courts Friday.

As Inside Edition reports, his list of so-called ‘achievements’ is pretty long.

“It takes so long to read all the charges, even Harris-Moore gets impatient. ‘How long do you think this is going to take?’ When he was on the loose, the renegade teenager became a national sensation. As he taunted authorities by leaving behind the signature hand-drawn barefoot bandit footprint. He stole a private plane, even though he had never taken a flying lesson in his life. And flew to the Bahamas, crash-landing in a swamp.”

Harris-Moore’s victims are relieved the barefoot bandit has been caught and sent to jail after all the distress he caused, but some people tell Seattle’s KING..

“I feel bad and I don't feel like his talent should be wasted in prison. Like maybe military service or CIA. He is a genius.”

Like any movie this genius might be a little misunderstood, his life of crime may come from childhood problems. As the LA Times reports...

“Harris-Moore has ‘significant lifelong neurocognitive impairments’ that a psychiatrist who evaluated him linked to his mother's heavy drinking, violent outbursts, constant neglect and frequent relationship changes... The prevailing storyline has been one of a confident young man who threw off family entanglements to go on the run...”

The defense team hoped the judge would take that into account. Prosecutors wanted a ten-year sentence; Harris-Moore got seven years. The Christian Monitor reports, the defense argued he could use his genius for good.

Fearing that a 10-year sentence would break Harris-Moore's spirit and ruin his potential, one defense investigator wrote to the judge, ‘Given a reasonable sentence, there is every reason to believe that Colt will make the most of his time behind bars, prove himself a model inmate, then work hard to become a self-sufficient, contributing citizen after his release.’”

Harris-Moore pleaded guilty on 16 counts from Island County and 17 counts from San Juan County, including charges of a residential burglary and identity theft.
