WATCH THE FULL VIDEO OF ERYKAH BADU'S "WINDOW SEAT" HERE.
Soul singer Erykah Badu bares all in her latest video -- to nationwide mixed reaction.
And it's not just the nudity that's stirring up controversy. Chicago's CBS-affiliate explains.
"Ms. Badu and her crew shot the video in one take on a Dallas street, but it was not just any street. It was the scene of the assassination of John F. Kennedy, just under the Texas School Book Depository and at its finish, at the foot of the legendary grassy knoll."
Cleveland's Fox-affiliate reports while some supported Badu's move as artistic -- most disapproved.
"Are you serious? First time I've seen anything like that here in the plaza."
REPORTER: "There was shock and disgust...
"Oh my God. Seriously?"
REPORTER: "...on the streets of Dallas today."
"Wow that's crazy, man. I think it was tacky. That's so wrong."
REPORTER: "And to a lesser extent, support."
"I think it's creative."
In an interview with the Dallas Morning News -- Badu says she doesn't regret the video -- that she expected backlash.
BADU: "... it was a protest to awaken a term called 'groupthink.' ... It’s human nature for a person to be afraid to express his or her self in fear of being ostracized by the group or general consensus."
But before others start thinking about stripping down publicly in the name of art, Dallas' KTVT and Fox News reports there were legal steps Badu neglected to take.
KTVT: "The city of Dallas says the video producers didn't apply for the required permits for this project, so they didn't even know this was going on. Now even though witnesses told me they called 9-1-1, Dallas police say there were no complaints, so no charges will be filed."
FOX NEWS: "In the final moments, most people in the background seem remarkably unaffected. Over the phone Badu told me she thought they were in shock. No permit, no plan she said. We just did it."
Badu says her crew shot the video "Guerilla style" -- in one take, with no advance warning.
But an article in The Guardian asks -- Is that really believable?
"... others suggest that modern editing capabilities means that she could easily have shot the video in studio and superimposed it on background footage of Dallas street scenes."
