I think this is nuts. I know that insurance companies are trying to become better, but as a person that is going to need DIRE healthcare when I graduate from university, I don't think it is fair to penalize someone for something that can't be helped. And maybe the baby could loose weight, but it is a CHILD, not an adult, and you can't put a baby on a diet....

Nobody is using or manipulating the baby by showing this case as an example of how bad this system can get. The fact that the companies would deny coverage to an infant is proposterous. And showing to everyone what happened is just going to help them to see how bad this system really is and how mud

Insurance companies are evil, so this is no surprise. And no, no one is "using" this baby as a tool to promote health care reform, but doesn't this strike anyone as a sign??? A 4 month old baby gets denied health care?? Hello?? Is anyone awake? The founding fathers would be ashamed at what we've become.

I hope proponents for healthcare reform have enough sense not to stoop to using an infant to further their political agenda. Whether what they stand for is right or wrong, using someone's kid to get their way is all wrong.

I don't think this story would make a difference with reform. The parents are clearly not providing the child with healthy nutrition, just look at him. The problem isn't with the companies, its with the parents. Who ISNT trying to make a buck these days anyhow? This is America!

My kid is in the ninety eighth percentile and should be a kids model at age 3. We just applied for coverage for him, I'd like to see whether or not they cover him...

"numbers have to be used" - Yeah, numbers that guarantee they can deny coverage to 5% of the population. But we don't have health care rationing in America...

Why is it that only healthly people can get insurance? I thought health insurance was to help pay for bills ensued by health issues, like weight. Oh that's right, it's an "insurance company", so "insurance" means the insurance company is insured to make an outrageous profit! Oh, I get it!

I think its interesting the insurance company got to decide what qualified a pre-existing condition. Obviously they didn't consult their medical director who has said on the record a baby can be in the 95-percentile and still be healthy. I wonder on how many other issues the insurance company, and not medical professionals, decide what is a pre-existing condition.
