For as much as he tweets, Ashton Kutcher doesn't seem to spend much time actually reading Twitter. Or any news source for that matter. The Two And A Half Men star found himself in hot water Wednesday night after posting this tweet about former Penn State coach Joe Paterno:
"How do you fire Jo Pa? #insult #noclass as a hawkeye fan I find it in poor taste."
Kutcher later said he wasn't aware of Penn State's alleged child sex abuse scandal. But Rivals.com blogger Graham Watson wonders how a celebrity sports fan could be completely in the dark:
"The problem with Kutcher's ignorance is that he's a self-proclaimed college football fan, who gives a shout out to his beloved Iowa Hawkeyes ... whenever possible. He's also made appearances at their games. The greater irony, Kutcher and wife Demi Moore actually have a foundation dedicated to the fight against child exploitation."
Kutcher’s ignorance of the situation didn't stop many of his 8 million followers from lashing out. E! News has the story:
"After serious backlash where some of his 8 million followers called him an 'idiot' and 'ignorant,' Ashton removed the post... FLASH ... the celeb is also promising to take a twitter break following the misstep, writing: 'I feel awful about this error. Won't happen again.'"
So how does Kutcher plan to prevent this from happening again? MSNBC says the celebrity’s unfiltered Twitter feed will be a thing of the past:
“Ashton Kutcher, who is at the forefront of Twitter, is going to have an editor. He said he’s going to have people from his company tweeting for him, so he has someone watching what he tweets… FLASH … After all this time, I mean do you know how many inappropriate things Ashton Kutcher has tweeted since the beginning? This is pretty big if he’s going to make this kind of a move.”
Kutcher’s decision to censor his own tweets seemed to create even more controversy. A Washington Post blogger says he might as well delete his account:
"The idea that he would turn his account over to his publicity team seemed to be anathema to his many followers ... the strength of the service is that it puts users in direct contact with the celebrities and brands they like. Kutcher’s decision undermines that relationship."
Kutcher appears to have taken the event in stride.
He later posted this picture. No word if it was approved by his new editors.
