He’s got plenty of nicknames-- usually ending with “nator” -- and although he spent most of his rise to fame in California -- Arnold Schwarzenegger now has a museum dedicated to his life -- back where it all started.
“The village of Thal is opening a museum in his honor. That’s where Schwarzenegger grew up. In fact, the museum is at his old family home.” (KNBC)
The house itself had no running water or electricity while Arnie was growing up, but as The Telegraph reports, it’s now home to a whole assortment of props, memorabilia, and recreations of Schwarzenegger’s life. (Image: ArniesLife.com)
“The museum runs through from Arnie’s bodybuilding days to his acting career and rise to the governorship of California. The house itself has been preserved as it was in 1947, from Arnold’s steel-tubed bed to the kitchen where his mother cooked and baked.”
For movie buffs -- highlights include a sword from Conan the Barbarian and a motorcycle from Terminator -- along with some life-size models of Schwarzenegger in those iconic roles. (Video: BBC)
The museum opened Saturday -- marking Schwarzenegger’s 64th birthday. And while he wasn’t able to make it to the opening, KPTV reports -- visitors got something of a consolation prize.
“He did send a special video message -- you see there. He says he does plan to visit in person sometime later this year.”
And the BBC reports -- locals were quote- “uncomfortable with” his policies as California’s governor.
Still -- they love their hometown hero. The museum’s co-coordinator says...
“I think it’s always the same people -- that people in Austria like him because he was a little farm boy and his career was so exciting and so special and I think the Austrian people are really proud.”
