One Arizona couple apparently thought it would be funny to duct tape their children and post a cell-phone photo of their work on Facebook. Nobody “liked” it. KTVK has more on the no-laughing matter...
“’Frank and Kayla Almuina, parents accused of duct taping their children and hanging them on a home gym. Investigators say the parents wrapped the duct tape around their children’s wrists and ankles; their mouths were also taped shut. The suspects told investigators they didn’t mean any harm.’
‘They indicated it was simply a joke’.
‘A joke?’”
Kayla thought posting the photos would be funny to her Facebook friends.
And even with only 78 of them, one was all it took to alert the authorities. The friend called the state’s child abuse hotline, and the sheriff’s office arrested Frankie, 20, and Kayla, 19.
Police are not releasing the photo, but Kayla told investigators the children are crying in the photo because they had received medical shots earlier that day -- not because they were being hung. County sheriff Rex Gilliand told Fox News, quote, “I’m not buying it.”
“The photos depicted the children's faces in sheer terror…It is clearly child abuse, and they were charged appropriately … I will tell you that in 30 years in law enforcement in Arizona, this is one of the most horrendous things I have ever seen.”
Fox noted that Facebook’s presence in the case is similar to that of Chicagoan Andre Curry, who just last week bound his 1-year-old daughter with painter’s tape and posted a photo to Facebook afterwards.
In it, you can see his daughter taped at the wrists, ankles and mouth, but even scarier -- the father’s caption: ‘This is wut happens wen my baby hits me back,’-with a smiley face.
The Arizona couple is being held for a bond of $25,000 each. Child Protection Services has secured the child, who is currently staying with another relative.
