It seems Apple has grown tired of just sitting on its hefty stack of $76 billion -- according to the latest from Bloomberg, the company is looking to make a big time purchase.

Anchor: “Sources tell Bloomberg Apple is considering making a bid for Hulu. Bloomberg data shows the video’s service may be worth more than two billion dollars."

So what’s in it for Apple? PC World reports,

"...the deal would include a five-year extension of programming rights, with two of those years being exclusive. Apple would have a use for this, and it would obviously turn Apple TV from a “hobby” into a serious part of its business overnight."

Hulu is currently owned by Walt Disney Co., News Corp. and NBC Universal. The trio is looking to marry Hulu off to its finest suitor -- and Apple’s not the only company in the running. Other potential buyers also include Yahoo, Google and Amazon. Microsoft recently told Hulu, “No thanks,” leaving Yahoo as a top favorite in the bidding war. CNET says,

“Yahoo has reportedly offered to pay up to $2 billion to acquire Hulu if the deal includes four or five years of exclusive content access to current TV shows and older movies."

While the corporate giants grapple for control of Hulu -- another familiar name might want to take notice. If Apple’s presence doesn’t have Netflix sweating yet -- it should. The Atlantic reports,

"Hulu's content combined with the iTunes subscription model would create a serious competitor to Netflix, which has been the subject of a lot of vitriol recently due to a planned price hike."
