The highly anticipated Apple tablet is dominating tech news. While most of the media gets that they have nothing more than rumors to report, they’re still playing along.  Check out this quick reversal from Brian Tong on CNET.

“Now, there’s been plenty of tablet news over the last few weeks so lets get everyone up to speed with some of the latest details that you may or may not know.”

“Now we know it’s easy to get caught up with all the rumors, so what can you really believe about the impending tablet that cast a shadow over CES?  Absolutely nothing until Apple tells us on January 27th.”

On FOX Business, an analyst says that invitations to that January 27th event are what’s now fueling the rumor mill, and that we’ll probably see a tablet.

“What we do know, and what we’ve been speculating about, is this January 27th event, that Apple is now coming out and confirming.  Apple unveiling the invitations today…”

“Very sort of basic, just names the place the date the time.  Did not indicate what sort of creation we could see but of course everyone could see we’ve been talking about this iSlate…”

Tech news outlets like TechVi are so hungry for a clue they’re dissecting the invites, even going so far as to look for hidden meaning in the color scheme.

“Chris, you saw the invite, do you have any info, do you think those colorful splotches mean something?  Does the word creation mean something?  What do you think’s coming up?”

CNBC seems pretty fed up with the speculation, and takes a tongue in cheek approach to the rumors.  But, they say, so many rumors could inflate stock prices.

“It is coming, the final word in innovation.  The tablet, Apple’s latest and greatest product that could not only revolutionize computing, but possibly make you rich, stop smoking, lose weight, and maybe even get a date with this girl.”

“I think the stocks going to continue to go up into the event, but after the event I wouldn’t be surprised to see a pull-back, given that it’s a buy on the rumor, sell on the news type of a story.”

Finally, Tech Crunch’s Paul Carr says is so tired of tablet rumors he calls for a week-long quiet period on the subject.  To him, the media’s behavior has been embarrassing.

“At best it’s attention seeking... At worst it’s a bizarre form of fan fiction: gaggles of tech hacks who never fully left the schoolyard, scribbling out their own personal Steve Job fantasies for the approbation of their peers.”

So are you sick of Apple tablet rumors?  Or do you get a kick out of tech speculation?
