Who will replace Steve Jobs? Rumors are already flying over who will get the next bite of the Apple.
The Wall Street Journal reports...
“Some members of Apple Inc.’s board have discussed CEO succession with executive recruiters and at least one head of a high-profile technology company.”
But just how serious is the discussion? The Journal goes on to say that the conversations...
“...weren’t explicitly aimed at recruiting a new chief executive and were more of an informal exploration of the company’s options...The directors don’t appear to have been acting on behalf of the full board... Apple has seven directors, including Mr. Jobs.”
Concern for the company’s future is unsurprising -- talk of succession has been hot since Jobs’ secretive medical leave in January. CNET reports,
“...Jobs left his day-to-day duties at the company due to an undisclosed illness. In 2004, he was treated for a rare form of pancreatic cancer. And he received a liver transplant in 2009.”
The January leave brings Jobs to his second medical absence in two years. PC World reports that Jobs’ multiple leaves are...
“...causing concern among some shareholders who fear the company is withholding information related to his health.”
Cook has already proven his leadership abilities twice--first taking over for Jobs in 2004--and again in 2009.
But, according to Technorati, the board is...
“...clearly indicating that perhaps Apple’s options aren’t limited to appointing COO Tim Cook, when the time comes.”
Was Jobs in on this chat? It’s still unknown. The Register reports--when asked directly by the Wall Street Journal -- Jobs denied talk of successors. Jobs fired back via email...
“I think it is hogwash.”
