If you just bought a brand new iPad 4, it looks like it will be old news pretty soon. Apple is reportedly working on a thinner, lighter, newer version already— the iPad 5. Here’s KRON.

“The new version is expected to have a 9.7 inch screen. The fifth generation iPad is likely to be released in March of new year.”

And according to TechnoBuffalo—  this would mean the iPad 4 which was just released last month will have the shortest product cycle of the iPad line so far.

“Should the iPad 5 actually launch in March, that will make the time between iterations a mere five months, the shortest yet for the product line. This would, however, put the iPad back into the spring refresh cycle.”

Although the Japanese blog which broke the news reports the iPad 5 is expected to adopt some unrealistic design elements from the iPad mini with...

“...dimensions of 4 mm in height, 17 mm in width, and 2mm in depth.”

But as a writer for CNET points out, that clearly that has to be a mistake unless users are expected to scroll using needle point.

“The more likely scenario is that those dimensions represent the difference. The current iPad is 241.2 mm in height, 185.7 mm in width, and 9.4 mm in depth.”

And presumably, the next iPad would pick up the white and silver and black and slate elements from the iPad Mini, which originally picked them up from the iPhone 5.

9to5 Mac adds— "Apple is also reportedly working on a second generation of the iPad mini. This new model is said to include a Retina display with the same resolution as the third and fourth generation iPads."
