Notice a change on Apple.com? No, not the Steve Jobs tribute page. Take a closer look at the MacBook Pro tech specs.
On Monday, Apple quietly introduced new updates to MBP line. The 13 inch now starts off at a speed of 2.4 GHz with 500GB of storage. Both 15s, carry Intel Core i7 processors. And both the 15s and 17 inch Pros have updated graphics - Radeon 6770M is now standard. Oh, and the price hasn’t changed. (Apple)
Got it? A little confused? Don’t sweat the details, a blogger for TFTS says...
“In case you already purchase [sic] a 2011 MacBook Pro you shouldn’t be annoyed to see new machines come out already. This is just a mild update, as I said before, so the laptop you currently own will be more than suitable for day-to-day average-to-pro operations.”
Still, Apple didn’t shut down its store. There was no Keynote. Is this a real upgrade? Well, a writer for Geek.com points out...
“First up, even though the internals have been upgraded, the price of each model has stayed the same Whether you see that as a plus depends on how expensive you think Apple products are to begin with, but at least they haven’t become even more so.”
But GigaOM says, an update is an update - no matter the size and media attention.
“Still, if you were holding out on a MacBook Pro purchase pending updates, this is probably the best you can expect for at least another four to six months. We’ll likely see benchmarks soon that show just how much the under-the-hood changes affect performance.”
And much like the new iPhone 4S, the design of the new MacBook Pros haven’t changed. But that doesn’t stop Apple Bitch from thinking about MBPs future.
“Certainly, the popularity of the MacBook Air has to have Apple thinking about how they will take the MacBook Pro line forward, and while hard drive storage may be here for some time yet, one wonders if this will be the last iteration of the Pro with the current form factor.”
