Rumors of an actual Apple television have been floating around for years-- and they’ve resurfaced yet again. But this time VentureBeat says there’s some teeth to these rumors citing…
“Multiple reports, as well as sources interviewed by VentureBeat, support the rumor, which is widespread among the gadget industry.”
The article goes on to say the cost of LCD screens has likely been holding Apple back all these years – but with the price rapidly declining - now may be the perfect time for the tech giant to jump in the TV ring.
“Apple has been testing the waters with its AppleTV … The company has a number of partnerships with movie studios and television networks, giving it an impressive content library. And its lightweight iOS operating system seems ideally suited for consumer devices…”
But tech blogger Erik Schwarts isn’t buying it. He says flat out – no way.
“A few times a year for the last 15 years someone writes an article about Apple going to start making a TV set. I am quite sure that there has been a team at Apple working on TV projects for literally the last 20 years. I am also quite confident that they are not going to release a TV in the near future.”
A blogger for LIVEdigitally argues -- this time around – it’s likely and it’ll be a game changer.
“Will they shock us with their offering when it comes out? Probably, though probably in the same ‘why isn’t everybody just doing it that way’ style they do with everything else. Will they create a massive gaping wound in the side of the TV industry, and opportunity for a brand new type of ecosystem to emerge? Absolutely.”
And a PC Magazine blogger already wants to buy one.
“Every time I mention it to anyone, especially to younger people who seemed to have traded TV for Hulualtogether, they all say the same thing: "If Apple built a TV, I'd buy it."… With the market the way it is, I think people would go nuts over a branded Apple television … The possibilities are endless for a company whose logo is priceless.”
According to VentureBeat’s sources -- we can expect to see the Apple TV sometime in late 2012 or early 2013.
