For all their controversial security measures -- like patting down children or allegedly checking an elderly woman’s diaper - the TSA is now under fire for letting a dangerous weapon get all the way to a plane.

“The TSA uses metal detectors, body scanners, and even pat downs at airports and yet somehow a frightening security breach allowed a weapon on board a Jet Blue plane...” (FLASH)
“That weapon that was found on board was a stun gun. It was found on a plane here that landed at Newark.”
(CBS)

And this time -- it isn’t just a matter for the TSA -- the FBI started its own investigation. According to reports, there is no indication the gun was fired -- but just the fact it got on a plane is causing some anxiety. Gather reports the next steps.

“...the gun itself will be examined for clues such as finger prints and identification numbers that could indicate where it was purchased. Authorities have not yet released any information about where the gun was from...”

Authorities also don’t know who was sitting in the seat with the gun. Some speculate -- it was a test by terrorists -- WHDH reports the location was tied to terror in the past...

“The plane took off from Logan, which has a history with terror related incidents. It was the departure point for two terrorist-loaded planes on 9/11...”

Passengers have been quick to put their two cents in -- seeing as how a failure like this could mean life or death for air travelers. NECN found varying opinions...

“It’s really hard for them to find every little thing -- so you don’t know if maybe it had been left from three or four flights ahead and they just hadn’t found it in time...”
“I don’t see how it could get through at this point to be honest with you -- you have to take off your shoes, you bags are checked -- it just seems like one of those momentary lapses.” (FLASH)
“I think it’s scary, however, I’m not worried or concerned about our flight today in any way."

More details will be coming out as the FBI investigation continues.
