Is it the rise of a new breed of terrorist?  Across Europe, concerns are rising about anarchists -- plotting to terrorize several countries.  Perhaps in a coordinated effort.

According to Al Jazeera, anarchist groups across Europe have claimed responsibility for the recent string of parcel bombs delivered to various embassies. One such organization attempts at the Greek embassy in Italy were foiled early Tuesday.

“An anarchist group called the Informal Federation of Anarchy says its responsible. Similarities with last months parcel bomb campaigns in Greece are being investigated and any sign that local anarchist groups are linking across international borders will be worrying for Europe’s government.”

There might be more to worry about than initially thought because nearly all the bombs in Greece and Italy were parcel bombs and were delivered to various embassies. But, according to France 24, police officials are saying they can’t find any hard evidence to prove any sort of coordination between anarchist groups.

“However he did say that Italian and Greek authorities are looking into any contacts that happened between the groups. They do act in solidarity with each other professing to have similar ideological or political connections but not necessarily any operational ones.”

The BBC reports, there are other significant differences between the bombs delivered in Greece compared to the ones in Italy.

“Greek police have pointed out that the mail bombs posted in Athens seemed intended not to cause injury. While those delivered in Italy appeared designed to maim whoever opened them.”

TIME magazine says anarchists have been conducting
violent operations for some time now. They interviewed a terrorism expert who says these anarchist groups are simply attention hungry.

“This is something they have to do from time to time to show that they exist. But the level of threat they pose is minimal.”

The threat might be small but the aims are big.  Officials say anarchists have sent letter bombs to senior heads of states of France, Italy and Germany. So do you think these anarchist groups warrant international action similar to Al-Qaeda? Or are they mostly harmless?
