The myth that has circled around Apple TV just got a little more plausible. Apple Analyst Gene Munster told a crowd at this week’s “Ignition: Future of Media” conference that he believes Apple is indeed creating a TV that should be available by Christmas 2012.
So what does Munster expect from the rumored newest member of the iFamily? According to Business Insider...
...the TVs will come in a range of sizes, be fully integrated with and controllable by other Apple devices and Siri, and cost nearly twice as much as your average HDTV.
Although writers at Network World say Munster has a spotty history when it comes to foretelling Apple’s future, he might be on to something this time.
“...it’s easy to take Munster's comments with a grain of salt. … he's been talking about an Apple HDTV for years now and he's hardly proven accurate in the past ... But given the other rumblings towards an Apple HDTV as of late, we’re inclined to give Munster the benefit of the doubt.”
And while Munster himself doesn’t see consumers cutting the cord for the anticipated device, writers at Cult of Mac say it could make a significant impact on the cable industry.
“Munster doesn’t believe the Apple TV will completely replace the need for a cable subscription and cable box, but with the full integration of apps like Netflix, Crackle, Hulu, and the iTunes video library, we think that Apple’s TV will definitely threaten cable’s business model.”
Finally, if Munster’s prediction of Siri support, comes true, Tech News Daily says another tech company might steal Apple’s thunder in the meantime.
“While Apple TV could be the first voice-activated HDTV, its ‘wow’ factor might be sapped by Microsoft, which is adding voice and gesture control to the big screen via its Xbox Dashboard update Dec. 6.”
