The God Squad. That’s what one blogger has dubbed Tim Tebow and Jeremy Lin.

The two sports sensations have been repeatedly compared since Lin’s rise beginning about two weeks ago.

New England Sports Network explains the similarities beyond sports.

“Like Tebow, it isn't simply the winning that has captivated the audience, but their shared Christian beliefs. Both have made faith-based comments that could be attributed to either of the burgeoning stars.”

But religion aside, ESPN’s Bomani Jones says Tebow isn’t in the same class as Lin.

“It can’t be the same story because at some point we’re going to have to stop comparing Tim Tebow to real live, competent, professional athletes, that’s why this has to stop.”

And a blogger for the LA Times says all you have to do to know these two aren’t comparable is look at the stats.

“Lin has shown himself to be a singular talent, scoring more points in his first five starts than any NBA player since the ABA merger ...Tebow ranked 27th in NFL quarterback ratings.”

A blogger from Awful Announcing points out that Tebow-mania and Lin-sanity aren’t sports stories as much as symbols of current American media.

“In a way, this is the present and future of how sports are covered. We go from season to season in search of one person or one story to apply a clever hashtag to and treat as the most important thing that's ever happened in the history of forever.”
