Do you believe in miracles? The city of St. Louis sure does now. The Cardinals were 10 and half games back on August 24th. Now, just more than two months later, they are World Series champs

The improbable run is complete. One Washington Post writer thinks the story will be told for years to come.

“For decades, and perhaps even generations in this baseball-as-secular-religion city, what the Birds did in the last 65 days of this season will be retold with amazement.”

But could it mean more than just another World Series win? KSDK thinks so.

“I also think and we could get sociological here - with where we are now with the unemployment rate and as polarized as we are as a society, we are the only city that will be pull together by a world baseball championship.”

And now, with the Cardinals 11th World Series title, a writer for The New Yorker is throwing around serious words like “dynasty.”

“In the past eight years, across all four major sports, only the Lakers have reached their sport’s championship more times than the Cardinals. [Overall] Across all four sports, only four teams have won more championships.”

As for the Rangers, they came within one strike, twice, of holding up the Commissioner’s trophy. KXAS in Dallas has the Rangers’ reaction after losing the top spot two years in a row.

“A lot of the guys made the comment of how many teams can actually say they got to the World Series two years in a row, which is true. It will once again be a cold winter with the Texas Rangers not bringing home the coveted trophy.”

The last time a team lost back-to-back World Series was the Atlanta Braves in 1991 and 1992. But now, the Rangers are drawing comparisons to an NFL team that epitomizes coming so close to winning it all, and falling short.

“It turns out that Ryan’s built the Buffalo Bills of baseball — a team that gets to the big stage again and again, and fails.”

But Sports Illustrated writer Jimmy Traina recalls the All-Star game, which decides home field advantage in the World Series.

“Remember one thing: A wild card team had Game 6 & 7 at home over a division winner because of a fake exhibition game.”
