The Amanda Knox trial for the murder of Meredith Kercher took a new turn today as the third alleged murder suspect Rudy Guede says it is Knox and her ex-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, who are to blame.

“Guede has always admitted that he was in the cottage Knox shared with Kercher the night she was killed but did not participate in the crime he says. Instead he says he was listening to his iPod in the bathroom when intruders murdered Kercher. (FLASH) …Today on the stand he will deny reports that he told fellow inmates that Knox and her boyfriend had nothing to do with the crime.” (ABC News)

Both Knox and Sollecito are denying the accusations. The Deutsche Welle reports their responses...

“...[Knox said] the only time Rudy Guede, Raffaele and I were in the same space has been in court. I'm shocked and anguished. He knows we weren't there and have nothing to do with it... [Sollecito said] Guede always talks about a shadow that could be me and a voice that could be Amanda's. We've been fighting shadows for four years. Our lives have been destroyed in a subtle and absurd way.”

Guede’s claim contradicts what a cell-mate of his had said previously, though. CNN reports...

“Guede had been called as a witness to corroborate the story of another convict who told the court just over a week ago that Guede had said Knox and Sollecito were not involved. But on the stand, he did not back Mario Alessi's version of events.”

The trial is getting more and more unclear with the opposing claims -- BBC points out the inconsistencies.

“All three people found guilty of killing Meredith Kercher today -- on their feet or sitting down giving evidence in court -- all contradicting each other about what happened on that night in November -- Guede saying Know and Sollecito are guilty -- Knox and Sollecito saying no, they are innocent.”

The real weight is in Guede’s testament, though, and critics are calling the lawyer’s accusations a “bizarre sideshow.”  Guede is sticking to his accusation. London 24 reports his defense...

“...Guede wrote that he had nothing to do with the horrible murder of the splendid and wonderful Meredith Kercher by Knox and Sollecito... [ saying] this is a thought I’ve always had in my mind... It’s not up to me to decide who killed Meredith Kercher... I’ve always said who was there that damned night in that house.”

If Knox can find hard evidence in her favor the incrimination won’t matter. The Seattle Post Intelligencer reports what’s next for Knox...

“Knox's best hope for overturning her appeal now lies in the independent review of two contested pieces of forensic evidence, the results of which are expected later this week.
Her lawyers and family have always maintained that Guede was not a reliable witness, and that the hard evidence – or lack thereof – would be the element that finally sets her free.”

This forensic evidence -- or more specifically DNA evidence-- will be reviewed in court in July.
