In a scene out of a horror movie, Craigslist has been used as a serial killer’s weapon of choice to lure victims. Police now say they found three dead in eastern Ohio.
The suspects are in custody. The police believe the victims were lured via Craigslist help wanted ads for a well-paying job at a farm. ABC explains…
“But according to authorities that opportunity of a lifetime was all a devious hoax, a way to lure single, divorced white men to a remote location, where they were robbed and killed. November 15th, a body, which turns out to be 51-year-old David Pauley of Norfolk, Virginia, is found in a hand-dug grave. Friday, two more bodies are discovered in shallow graves, one has been identified as 47-year-old Timothy Kern.”
Timothy Kern updated his Facebook status on November 10th with some amount of suspicion for what he was getting himself into after getting the job offer. Here’s a look at his wall.
"Just got one of the strangest job offers. A good offer but strange. The job is to watch over 680 acres south of cambridge. Odd jobs and such but mainly just secure it. Trailer, utilities, salary. Drawbacks? No cell phone service, kids are up here, and i have to move this sunday."
In one attempt to draw in another victim, according to CNN, a South Carolina man responded to the same job offer, barely got away with his life and informed authorities of the Craigslist killer’s whereabouts.
“The possible Craigslist connection surfaced three weeks ago when a man told police he was driven into the woods by two men who advertised a job on a farm. He narrowly escaped after being shot in the arm.”
Police have two suspects in custody, 52-year-old Richard Beasley and 16-year-old Brogan Rafferty. Rafferty has been charged with attempted murder, while Beasley is being held for unrelated charges.
