“He left his fortune to charity. His household staff, family and his dog. A newly published article shows that the designer who committed suicide last year left roughly $26 million including money to care for his household pets. He left money for four charities including two that helped sick animals.”
McQueen passed away in February of last year. He took a cocktail mixture of cocaine, sleeping pills, and tranquiliser. Before his suicide -- The Washington Post reports -- he wrote a letter.
“McQueen asked for his family and friends to ‘look after’ his three dogs — Minter, Juice and Callum — in one of the final lines of his suicide letter.”
This isn’t the first time a celebrity has left a generous lump sum to pets. The Wall Street Journal explains the benefits of leaving pets in a will...
“There are 86.4 million cats and 78.2 million dogs owned in the U.S... Humane Society of the U.S., estimates that about 400,000 pets a year need to find new homes because their owners die. The living trust is more expensive, but since it takes effect right away, it offers protection in the event you are incapacitated and unable to care for your pet.”
The Alexander McQueen fashion house is still thriving. Recently, the Duchess of Cambridge's intricately decorated wedding dress, was designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen and is currently on display at Buckingham Palace.
