We now know what killed singer Amy Winehouse - the medical examiner’s reports calls it a “misadventure.” GDLA has the details.
Female Anchor: “Blood and urine samples showed that Winehouse was 4.5 times over the legal drunk driving limit. Although she was known for, you know, drinking and her drug problems, the pathologist found no traces of illegal drugs in her system and actually the wording on the coroners report is this was a death by misadventure.”
Misadventure simply means the death was a result of voluntary actions, not because of a criminal act – so no illegal drugs. According to Winehouse’s doctor-- the star had been sober for three weeks before her death.
She told the Coventry Telegraph...
"The advice I had given to Amy over a long period of time was verbal and in written form about all the effects alcohol can have on the system, including respiratory depression and death, heart problems, fertility problems and liver problems."
Winehouse’s doctor saw the singer the night before her death. Amy had relapsed--but the doctor told Entertainment Weekly Winehouse was...
“tipsy but calm.”
Amy’s boyfriend Reg Traviss also told the Mirror UK that Winehouse’s drinking was normal for a women her age. He said...
“I know girls of 27 who work in the City and they drink more than she drank...They binge-drink three or four nights a week.”
But Amy had struggled with drinking in the past-- even saying-- it was a form of self-medication. Fametastic quotes her saying this in 2007.
“I’m quite an insecure person. I’m very insecure about the way I look. I mean, I’m a musician I’m not a model. The more insecure I felt, the more I’d drink.”
Amy’s family did not comment after medical examiners released the report-- but they did issue a statement that said finding out what happened to Amy is somewhat of a relief. The Daily Mail has it.
“Amy was battling hard to conquer her problems with alcohol and it is a source of great pain to us that she could not win in time.”
