Rumors of a September 11 anniversary attack were unfounded, but that doesn’t mean Al Qaeda has kept quiet.

Osama bin Laden’s successor, Ayman al-Zawahiri, released his eighth video this year -- this one marking the 9/11 anniversary.

Chicago’s WLS has the latest.

“A private intelligence monitoring service says the video was posted on Jihadist forums on Monday. The video features an audio speech by al Qaeda’s new leader Ayman al-Zawahiri.”

In the video, which also features the late Osama Bin Laden, the Al Qaeda leaders praised upheaval in the Mideast, railed against capitalism, and promoted Anti-semitism.

CNN has the highlights.

“In it, the man who is essentially now the most wanted man in the world, Ayman al-Zawahiri -- remember he was Osama bin Laden’s deputy -- issued a statement saying he was praising the Arab Spring, which is the revolution that is sweeping across the Middle East, saying that this will actually bring about, or he hopes it would bring about, true Islam. And also the video showed footage as you were saying of Osama bin Laden ... he was warning Americans against falling as slaves to major corporations.”

U.S. forces obtained the Bin Laden footage four months ago. The Washington Post’s Jason Ukman explains why it wasn’t released prior to the raid.

“When the footage was released in May, the Obama administration said it was withholding the audio because it was reluctant to provide al-Qaeda a propaganda platform after his death.”

But the video wasn’t just threats and rhetoric -- the New York Post translated a peculiar segment of the video  -- in which bin Laden makes a book recommendation.

“I recommend that you read 'Obama’s Wars' by Bob Woodward. Obama should have been more honest with you, and should have told you that pressure was being exerted on him to continue the war … because it was dictated by interests of the influential lobbies in Washington.”

Before a congressional committee Tuesday, CIA Director David Petraeus said Al Qaeda is much weaker now than it was before the 9/11 attacks.
