Former Vice President Al Gore believes he found the culprit for President Obama’s poor debate performance Wednesday: the altitude in Denver. He spoke about his idea on Current TV after the debate Wednesday night.

“Obama arrived in Denver at 2 p.m. today. When you go to 5,000 feet and you only have a few hours to adjust...uh, I don’t know.”

But not surprisingly, conservatives took to Twitter to comment on Gore’s mile-hypothesis.

Fox News host Sean Hannity tweeted,

“This may be the best excuse yet! Gore blames altitude for the Rocky Mountain Beatdown!”

Mitt Romney spokesman Ryan Williams had a simple response:

“Worst. Spin. Ever.”

One Washington Post blogger says that after such a statement, it’s a good thing Gore has his own television channel.

“If he were just some regular old pundit-commentator-analyst-contributor-strategist, his comment attributing President Obama’s poor debate performance to Denver’s altitude could well serve as a firing offense.”

The next presidential debate is October 16 in Hempstead, New York - where the climate shouldn’t be as much of a problem for the president.
