Remeber Todd Akin? No??

How about now?

Former Missouri Republican lawmaker, Todd Akin, released an early copy of his new book to Politico. In it, Akin outlines the few regrets he has from his political career — none of which are from that interview.

"Rape is an evil act. I used the wrong words in the wrong way and for that I'm sorry." (Via The Wall Street Journal)

Instead, Akin regrets his apology for the now infamous comments on rape. Politico quotes the former U.S. House member, "By asking the public at large for forgiveness, I was validating the willful misinterpretation of what I had said."

In 2012, when Akin ran against U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill, he found himself in the rare position of being harpooned by both the right and the left.

Presidential candidate Mitt Romney asked him to step down from the race, and former White House Chief of Staff Karl Rove reportedly joked to donors, "We should sink Todd Akin, if he's mysteriously murdered don't look for my whereabouts."

Now two years later, Akin is still receiving the same treatment.

"As for Akin's fellow Republicans, they may not be enthused by the timing of Akin's tell-all."

"For him to raise this again is Republicans' worse nightmare."

And in an article entitled, "GOP to Todd Akin: Shut up," Politico quotes former communications director for the National Republican Senatorial Committee, Brian Walsh. "Todd Akin is an embarrassment to the Republican Party. ... He refuses to take any responsibility for sticking his foot in his mouth, alienating voters and costing Republicans a critical Senate seat."

Akin's book, "Firing Back" is set for release July 15th.
