Japan’s
The Daily Yomiuri newspaper reported last week that North Korea has plans to launch another missile on or around 4th of July, most likely aimed towards Hawaii. Newsy.com is following US reactions to the threat.
First we turn to the
Honolulu Advertiser who talked to a US senior defense official who downplayed the danger.
“I'm the first to admit North Korea has done a lot of crazy things, but they are not suicidal. This is sword-rattling, and North Korea is very good at sword-rattling."However, The Boston Globe says this continued bullying serves North Korea’s interests.
“For most international observers, it’s a case of here we go again. ‘North Korea has been able to get away with if not murder, than certainly a lot of things, and reap the rewards or just returning to the negotiating table.’”ABC News takes a historical look- at North Korean provocation on America’s day of celebration.
“What is this about July 4th? I think it was about two years ago on July 4th that the North Koreans also launched a missile. Just a pure in your face move because it’s Independence Day? I think that’s exactly what it is, George.”On a more lighthearted note, political blog
MindYourOwnDamnBusinessPolitics compares this issue to a recent infamous incident involving the President.
“…the U.S. will shoot down the North Korean missile with little fan fare, much as the President swatted the fly. He won’t give the North Koreans any more attention than what is absolutely needed, just as he did with the annoying fly, and just as you might do with a disobedient child.”What do you think? Will North Korea provide 4th of July fireworks or is this more posturing by a North Korean nuisance?
