The light’s just right, it’s time to make your move. You lean in close to get that special kiss from... a straw? That’s if you’re using the latest invention from Japan’s Kajimoto Laboratories. DigInfo TV meets with Nobuhiro Takahashi-- one of the researchers working on this Internet make-out machine.
NOBUHIRO TAKAHASHI: “The device is for communications within the mouth, in other words, the goal is to obtain the feeling of kissing. If you take the device in your mouth and turn it with your tongue, the other device turns the same way.”
And while the machine might not sound like something to help set the mood, CNN explains --
“The idea is to help lovers -- in long-distance relationships, say -- by transmitting the tactile sensation of kissing from one person to another. The lab is running both devices on the same computer, but says a system could be set up to connect them via the Web.”
But not everyone is behind this idea of mechanized smooching. AOL News spoke with the author of a book called Kissing, who says...
“This device operates on a very narrow aspect of kissing -- the use of the tongue -- while ignoring, say, the hands or the neck... No matter how advanced some things may get, kissing is one thing that can't be replaced by machines.”
Finally, despite poking fun at the machine- CNBC latched on to one potential use.
“It appears ol' Nobuhiro hasn't had a lot of practice kissing, if you get my meaning, but he does have a sharp commercial mind! He says, ‘If you have a popular entertainer use this device and record it, that could be hugely popular if you offer it to fans.’”
Currently, Kajimoto Laboratories is working on including a sense of taste, breathing and moistness to the device.
