Ladies and gentlemen – the iPhone 4S – it’s here and it’s real.  Apple’s highly anticipated new smartphone was announced Tuesday.  And while the specs are impressive, its got one new feature that’s really getting some press - and its not the cloud.

“It’s the next evolution of voice control and based on their acquisition of the Siri assistant.  Now, its all voice control and will allow you to make appointments that are instantly added to your calendar, compose voice to text messages, and create reminders for that rash ointment you forgot about.” (Video: CNET)

Boom! But is it really a breakthrough?  Google has basically already been there, done that. But either way – a reporter for Fox News says Assistant IS all that.

“Imagine if you had a personal assistant built into your iPhone. ... You just pick up your iPhone and say remind me to pick up bread later today. Then it populates puts that information right inside your calendar and then sends you reminders. No typing involved.”

And all of that causing Wired to say...

“Apple’s Rumored Virtual Assistant Could Outshine New iPhone”

So it’s gonna be cool, but is it any different than what’s already out there? According to Apple Insider, Apple says yes - and here’s why.

"It will figure out what results you don’t like, what restaurants you frequent, and what people you want to talk to the most. It will adapt to your needs and become more than just a module for voice commands...”

So it listens – AND learns. Wanna see a prototype in action? This is Mac Rumors – putting together a little show of its own.

“Send text to Scott Forestall saying I like the new assistant. Mobile or Work? Mobile. Get information on the International Space Station.”

Other new features on the 4S are the cloud – the camera, and the new processor.
