The Notre Dame Fightin’ Irish didn’t put up much of a fight at all in Monday night’s BCS national championship football game. They succumbed to the Alabama Crimson Tide 42-14.
Here’s your recap.
“Notre Dame’s defense only allowed two rushing touchdowns all season. They allowed two in the first 16 minutes of the game last night.”
“McCarron to Amare Cooper for a 34-yard touchdown. 35-nothing at that point and this game was pretty much over from there... They beat the Irish 42-14.”
With the win, this Alabama team etched its name in history becoming only the third team ever to win three national titles in four years.
Nebraska won back-to-back games to make three titles in four years in the nineties. Notre Dame did the same in the forties.
So.. how about that D word? Is it time to call Alabama a “dynasty”? Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban says no thanks.
“I don’t think words like dynasty are words that I have much interest in... We’re interested in accomplishment and consistency in performance and we want to continue to try and do that in the future. So those are for other people to talk about.”
ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit tweeted Alabama is the greatest dynasty of his lifetime — he’s 43 years old. “Who knows how many more they’ll win.”
He added on the postgame show...
“Nick Saban has figured out a formula that works... This team again, what is it 3 in 4 now? They’re gonna be ready to go again next year. They’re not gonna buy into becoming complacent. That within itself is unique to me.”
Meanwhile, according to the New York Daily News, Notre Dame, ranked number one in the country after an undefeated season, proved they just weren’t ready for the big stage.
Dan Weiss writes, the “Irish finally played a team with superior coaching, superior talent and far better mental and physical toughness.”
Notre Dame Head Coach Brian Kelly spoke with ESPN after the game as “Sweet Home Alabama” blared through the stadium’s speakers.
“We have one more step left. When i step back from it, I’ll know that we have a lot left to do to get back here because that’s our goal to get back here and win a national championship.”
Teams from the Southeastern Conference have won seven straight BCS national titles.
