MSNBC interviewed protesters on the arrests.

“It was civil disobedience, it was still disobedience but we were peacefully demonstrating. We weren’t doing anything bad, and they weren’t only arresting kids either, they were arresting elderly women. They arrested a 13-year old girl.”

But according to ABC, protesters argue they were directed by police to walk in the road. One says...

“We were peacefully walking on the top on the wooden part, where we’re supposed to, until directed by the New York City Police to go down into the street area.”

And another adds...

“They said you had to option to walk on the street or walk on the roadway.”

The Telegraph reports, police are telling a different story.

“A police spokesman said: ‘Multiple warnings by police were given to the protesters to stay on the pedestrian walkway, and [they were told] that if they took roadway they would be arrested.’”

As the drama continues, Fox News reports that the protests have also spread to other cities.

“Meanwhile, in other parts of the country: protesters also gathering in Albuquerque, Boston and Los Angeles to express their solidarity with the movement here in New York. Their demands remain unclear. Turnout has reached as high as a few thousand.”

Despite the arrests, demonstrations still ongoing within the city where protesters remained camped. The National Post reports that unions could provide the financial and organizational support to the largely leaderless Occupy Wall Street.

“The group has gained support among some union members. The United Federation of Teachers and the Transport Workers Union Local 100, which has 38,000 members, are among those pledging solidarity.”
