The world will soon know the fate of New York City's "Fearless Girl" statue, which popped up overnight near the "Charging Bull" statue a day before International Women's Day last year.

The "Fearless Girl" is safe until this year's International Women's Day on March 8, when her permit expires. What happens to her after that will reportedly be decided next week.

Investment firm State Street Global Advisors commissioned the statue on Wall Street to as part of a campaign to bring more women into corporate leadership roles.

She became immensely popular, attracting thousands of visitors and tourists. Almost 40,000 people have signed a petition on Change.org to make the statue a permanent fixture, which is State Street's goal as well.

A spokesperson for New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said, "We are discussing various approaches to ensure this statue continues to be a part of the city's civic life."
