US KILLS LEADER OF AL-QAIDA IN PAKISTAN

The Guardian

On Friday Guardian.co.uk reported on the death of Usama al-Kini and his lieutenant Sheik Ahmed Salim Swedan:

Usama al-Kini was believed to be responsible for attacks including the bombing of a Marriott hotel in Islamabad that killed 55 people in September, and an unsuccessful attempt to kill the former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto, who was later assassinated in another attack, (a US counterterrorism) official said. International Herald Tribune

The International Herald Tribune reported that is part of an ongoing effort:

“Kini, whose death was first reported on The Washington Post's Web site on Thursday, was at least the eighth senior Qaeda leader killed in an increasingly aggressive CIA air campaign to attack top militants who have carved out a sanctuary in Pakistan's tribal areas along the Afghanistan border.” (International Herald Tribune)
