OBAMA NAMES NEWEST COMMERCE SECRETARY PICK

U.S. President Barack Obama named former Washington Governor Gary Locke as his third pick for Commerce secretary. Locke is a Democrat and was the country's first Chinese-American governor.

CNN provides Locke's political background, reporting he served as Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee from 1989 to 1994.
The Wall Street Journal
The Wall Street Journal reports Locke was a fiscal conservative after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The journal describes Locke as:
"generally business-friendly and pro-trade. He is likely to provide a sympathetic ear to multinational firms in the administration. He also is regarded as a skilled and experienced strategist when it comes to domestic economic-development projects."
