Japan's national broadcaster accidentally sent out a false alert about a North Korean missile launch.

According to messages on NHK's website, the broadcaster issued the alert Tuesday, which warned residents to evacuate and seek shelter immediately.

The error was reportedly corrected within minutes, and NHK apologized for the "mistake." It's unclear exactly what caused it.

NHK's false alert came just a few days after Hawaii issued one of its own. As we previously reported, officials say a Hawaii Emergency Management Agency employee accidentally pushed the wrong button.
