Reuters reports that Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich and his Chief of Staff John Harris have been taken into federal custody and has been charged with conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud and solicitation of bribery.
Politico.com reports on the charges in more directly.
And the Chicago Tribune has a timeline detailing the investigation, which they claim began in mid-2004, when longtime Republican Stuart Levine, resigned abruptly. In June 2008, the investigation heated up when Blagojevich’s top fundraiser, Antoin "Tony" Rezko, was convicted of using his ties to the governor to construct a “multimillion dollar kickback scheme.”

Chicago Tribune
“Federal authorities got approval from a judge before the November general election to secretly record the governor ... and among their concerns was whether the selection process might be tainted. That possibility has become a focus in an intensifying investigation that has included recordings of the governor and the cooperation of one of his closest friends.”
Politico
“The governor has been arrested -- and is being accused of attempting to sell President-elect Obama's Senate seat in exchange for financial benefits for his family.”
