Briana KoenemanA federal appeals court has decided New Jersey can enforce a new law that bans the sale of high-capacity gun magazines.
The law, which was passed earlier this year, reduced the maximum size of magazines for most gun owners from 15 rounds to 10 rounds.
On Wednesday, the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia ruled the law doesn't violate residents' Second Amendment rights and supports New Jersey's interest in public safety.
New Jersey's attorney general said in a tweet the ruling is a "big win for public safety and law enforcement safety."
But gun rights advocates argued the legislation is unconstitutional and promised to appeal the court's decision.
A representative for the Association of New Jersey Rifle and Pistol Clubs told The Hill the law turns "honest citizens into felons for keeping property obtained legally that could be used for defending their lives."
This law is one of six gun control measures New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy signed in June.
