Sony's "Concussion," starring Will Smith, is the first film of its kind to connect concussions, chronic traumatic encephalopathy and the NFL.

Now, NFL players and their families can see the film for free, Sony announced Wednesday.

Producers Ridley Scott and Giannina Scott said in a statement, "This is a movie for the players, so we wanted to give them a chance to see it before its nationwide release and free admission during its run in theaters."

Players can get a free ticket for themselves and a guest to screenings at U.S. Cinemark theaters.

"Concussion" opens Christmas Day.
