Jason Pierre-Paul’s Mistake Doesn’t Have To Be Yours This Fourth Of July

By Christian Bryant | June 30, 2016

The Fourth of July is around the corner, and a new public service announcement titled "#FireworksHurt" is bound to scare some people out of being reckless with the tiny explosives.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's short video features New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, the NFL player who suffered a pretty gruesome injury when a firework exploded in his hand July 4, 2015.

"On the way to the hospital, all I could think about was my son and whether I was going to make it," Pierre-Paul said.

This PSA is reminiscent of another from NFL quarterback Michael Vick who also turned his misfortune into a campaign directly related to his misfortune.

In a new Consumer Product Safety Commission report, nearly 65 percent of all fireworks injuries involved burns from devices like sparklers, bottle rockets and firecrackers.
