'Ghostbusters' Is Part of A Bigger Trend In Gender-Swapped Movies

By Danielle Dieterich | August 10, 2016

When the all-female Ghostbusters was announced there was a lot of excitement… and a whole lot of anger. Many people claimed the gender switched reboot would "ruin" the franchise and star Leslie Jones was pretty seriously harassed on Twitter.

The movie has gotten fairly positive reviews but didn't do great at the box office. Now all of the sudden there's a whole slew of Hollywood reboots all with the same twist: the leads are being played by someone with a different gender than in the original.

There's the Dirty Rotten Scoundrels remake starring Rebel Wilson, the Splash remake with Channing Tatum playing the mermaid (now merman). and the all-female Ocean's 11 just announced its star-studded cast.

So is this a thing now? Because if so we'd like to nominate an all-female Lord Of The Rings reboot.
