President Obama Announces Joe Biden Will Head A New Initiative To Cure Cancer
January 12, 2016
In his final State of the Union address, President Obama announced he would be asking Vice President Joe Biden to lead an initiative to cure cancer.
"Last month, (Biden) worked with this Congress to give scientists at the National Institutes of Health the strongest resources they’ve had in over a decade. Tonight, I’m announcing a new national effort to get it done."
Obama referenced a comment Biden made when he announced that he wouldn't be running for president that there's a need for a "moonshot" to cure cancer.
The vice president lost his son, Beau, to brain cancer last year.
