I think the fact that only U.S. politicians seem to be overly positive about these policies and future talks is a bad sign.
I admire Obama, his attempts at peace between Israelis & Pakistanis, and his take-charge attitude in initiating such talks. And certainly he is one busy man. But I think, perhaps in this case--for these talks are incredibly important--that it might be wise of the President to take heed and attend the talks himself. He cannot always do this, but we're talking about potential Israeli-Pakistani peace/war here. View
do you think the August deadline will matter? As much as I wish we would leave I remain skeptical about the chances of that actually happening. I agree we can leave whenever but we have a pretty bad track record when it comes to leaving other countries after a war. View
I would certainly say the timing and the way the film is made--in a quasi-documentary format--were intentional moves on the party of the filmmakers to circulate more anti-Iraq war sentiment or at least discussion.
However, I do not think this is wrong in the slightest. Moviemakers are artists, and art (like most things really) is far from objective. It's not supposed to be. Therefore, such a film is in every way acceptable.
As far as smear campaigns go--it could be the case. Like the video points out, they've happened many times before. Although, I must say, many of those speakers (particularly, the U.S. soldier) seem quite genuinely upset and at-odds at the film. Perhaps he was riled by others? View
The "move the struggle forward" chants of CA students & liberal educators evoking protests against the Vietnam War & protestest of racial discord of the '60s is TOTAL bunk...there's NO comparison here! Also, fyi, (according to the WSJ), "despite the budget cuts, CA will this year devote $3 billion to the U.C. system. That's about $13,000 per student%u2014more than the $10k per student that Illinois devotes to the U of Illinois and better than double the $6k per student that NY devotes to the SUNY system." View
The reason why women were not allowed on a submarine is due to privacy as a portion of the report suggests. Now we can start talking about a "new wave for women" when women are allowed to hold combat positions such as Army Ranger, Air Force Paratrooper, Navy seal etc. The one branch that allows this now is the Coast Guard; however they are only under the DoD in times of war. My grandfather (British) was stationed in the Pacific with the Royal Navy and was subject to similar tests. They were told to bury the palms of their hands into their eyes as hard as they could and turn away from the blast. Later, boats took them close to the blast site, apparently to test the effects of fallout. I was shocked when I heard this, especially when I found out the high incidence of cancer that his friends from that time were or had experienced. All 'Allied' nations are guilty of actions such as this post-war. View

Cheney? Mr. Weapons of Mass Destruction, credible? Folks, I don't care if you're a Dem or a GOP on this one. It's one thing for this relic of war profiteers wants to "sell sh_t on a stick and call it ice cream'. It's quite another when some party hard-liners and/or Obama haters want to gobble it up and say, "YUM!". Cheney should be tried for treason, not given the red carpet from ABC, and his party faithful. As I understand it, this battle in Marja is the most important battle in our war in Afghanistan to date. This is going to happen. View

They're taking credit for the stability because they inherited this war and whether they opposed the war or not, it's Obama's responsibility to handle it. You don't let somebody lead you into a mess, get a new leader and have some success, and then say "hey, thanks original guy for screwing up!" View

I would love to think this is a brilliant joke, perhaps even a statement about how we should be down to earth about Obama's ability to bring America back together so soon after a president whose potential war crimes divided the country and world. But, alas, much stupidity abounds and I would expect the same from a rural area anywhere, where most residents will not even see a passport in their lives. Healthcare for all and high taxes (think what one dollar buys you in a shop compared to what the government can do with it - fire, police, healthcare etc.) Welcome to a responsible future America!
